OUR VISION IS A CANADA WHERE NO ONE GOES HUNGRY

Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation has made visionary 10-year commitment to Food Banks Canada and the work we do, beginning in 2016 and continuing to 2026. The donation is part of Enterprise’s Fill Your Tank program, which is aimed at relieving hunger for people experiencing food insecurity in Canada.

This partnership has enabled every area of our work at Food Banks Canada, from strengthening the network to long term solutions to combat food insecurity in Canada.  Their contribution has had direct impact of people in need from coast to coast to coast.

To date their support has:

• Provided $3M in grants to expand the capacity of the food bank network, funding grants for storage, equipment, distribution capacity, staffing, systems and software, resulting in significant impact to communities across Canada.
• Provided support to the provincial associations across the country
• Allowed for the expansion of our National Food Sharing System and food acquisition strategies
• Invested in our advocacy efforts to focus on meaningful policy change addressing the food causes of food insecurity in Canada
• Supported the expansion and implementation of new technologies to enhance our efficiency and data collection
• Supported the work of a task force, in collaboration with the network, to enhance the food banking system as a whole 
• Supported our ongoing operations and administrative costs

Their ongoing support will expand our research capabilities, support Northern communities struggling with high food insecurity rates, fund innovation, and allow for the ongoing core work of Food Banks Canada.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundations ongoing commitment to Food Banks Canada will have a lasting impact of addressing food insecurity in Canada.

Since 2011, Walmart Canada and Walmart foundation has been supported our work at Food Banks Canada and the food bank network in our work to address food insecurity in Canada.  Their contributions have helped to build food bank capacity, strengthen the network, provide emergency relief and much more.

Through their annual Fight Hunger Spark Change Campaign, Walmart Canada raises millions of dollars which goes to direct support of food banks in communities across Canada.  In 2022 this campaign raised $5.37M in critical support for the network.

Additionally, since 2012 Walmart became a foundational retail partner of the Food Banks Canada Retail food program.  Do date this partnership has provided over 55 million pounds of quality food: including fresh, frozen, non-perishable, and consumer goods. 

Walmart Canada is a dedicated partner that continues to support our vision of a Canada where no one goes hungry.  Their contribution has, and will continue to have, a significant impact on those facing food insecurity in communities across Canada

COVID Pandemic Response

With the COVID pandemic impacting Canadians across the country, the Government of Canada through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, offered support to Food Banks Canada to provide unparalleled support to food banks and agencies in every part of the country, helping keep the doors open at many organizations.

Through the support of the Government of Canada, Food Banks Canada distributed over $90 million in funding, along with $27.5 million in food purchases transported to food security organizations in communities across Canada since 2020. 

The funding supported food banks to improve access to food for people experiencing food insecurity during this unprecedented time.  This funding helped food banks acquire the food they needed to meet the demand, increase storage, pivot their operations to align with public health guidelines, secure personal protective equipment, and remain staffed and open to serve their clients. 

The funding reached food banks and food security organizations across the country including organizations in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon, with a special focus on organizations that are led by and/or primarily serving Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Colour.

PEI Potatoes

During the ban on the export of P.E.I. potatoes to the U.S. that lasted from November to early April, Food Banks Canada worked with government officials and the P.E.I. Potato Board to keep truckloads of fresh, wholesome tubers from going to waste. To date, over 4 million pounds of PEI potatoes have been distributed which accounts for approximately 86 truckloads to 29 locations traveling about 200,000 km. Of the 4 million pounds of potatoes, 37,500 pounds were transported all the way to Nunavut, where the food insecurity rate is a staggering 57%.

Kraft Heinz has been a Food Banks Canada partner since 2012. 

Through their investment, they have supported the building of local food banks capacity to serve their community and the vision of a Canada where no one goes hungry.

Through the Kraft Heinz pantry day initiative, they have made a 5-year commitment to donate $20 million worth of products to Food Banks Canada. In 2021, Kraft Heinz was the lead vendor in the Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign.

Loblaw is one of Food Banks Canada longest-standing partners that supports our mission through multiple initiatives. 

Loblaw’s spring and holiday food drives raises much needed food for local food banks across Canada, as well as raising funds through an ‘at-cash’ campaign that engages Loblaw’s entire retail store network. These their campaigns Loblaws has raised $28M in direct support to food bank in communities across Canada since 2011.

Since 2014 Loblaw Company Limited has also donated over 35 million pounds of food to the Food Banks Canada food recovery program to help keep food bank shelves full.  Loblaw has also invested in multiple Food Banks Canada programs that support local families and communities, including our National Food Sharing System.
